COORDINATION ~ GRACEFULNESS ~ POWER ~ CONFIDENCE
by Chinook

People often say…”I’m too uncoordinated to play sports”  “I’m too inflexible to practice yoga.”  “I’m too impatient to meditate.”  “I have no rhythm so I can’t dance.”

I find it quite peculiar that the people who make statements like these don’t realize the self-defeatist nature of these statements.  They speak as if this is the only possible reality and no alternate course of action is available.  Like it is a permanent state of being with no probability of change.  This attitude can be the major characteristic that causes a listless life and one of the most detrimental factors and precursors to failure.  This mind state of ‘I can never do any better” can lead to lethargy, fear and depression.

Coordination, flexibility, patience, rhythm, etc CAN be improved with practice.

When you say things in finite terms like ‘never’ or ‘ever’, these statements make me think of Byron Katie and her techniques for getting out of mind traps.  To any of the aforementioned statements, Byron Katie, author of Loving What Is and creator of the revolutionary process called ‘The Work’, would ask you to consider four questions that can change your life.

Take for instance, the definitive negative statement “I’m not coordinated enough to do T’ai Chi!”  Ask yourself….

 (1)  Is it true?
 (2)  Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
 (3)  How do you react when you think that thought?
 (4)  Who would you be without the thought?  And… turn it around!

I have a few choice questions for you…

(1)   If you were thirsty, what would you do?
(2)   If you were hungry, what would you do?
(3)  If you were sleepy, what would you do?
(4)  If you wanted more education, what would you do?
(5)   If you were offered a job and needed work, what would you do?

And the answers are…..SIMPLE!

(1)  Drink!
(2)  Eat!
(3)  Sleep!
(4)  Study!
(5)  Follow up!

Now you’re starting to get the pattern.  If you want to be better in most things, it takes practice.  The more practice, the more efficient you become.  The more efficient you become, the more confident and self-assured you become and the more vibrance and vitality you have!  The PRACTICE and the JOURNEY are the most important parts.  It teaches you everything and opens up all the internal doors.  Never be afraid to try.  Never be afraid to try.  NEVER BE AFRAID TO TRY!

By doing the practices of yoga and T’ai Chi YOU WILL CREATE peacefulness, coordination, gracefulness, power and confidence.  These practices will teach you a lot about yourself and the universe in a safe, supportive environment.  Peace.
