GOING to EXTREMES! By Chinook.
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to do every yoga class at the studio
and also my 2 classes at the "J" (Jewish Community Center). Out
of 21 classes, I did 17 and I partially did or taught the other
4.
I just knew I could do it! Now for the un-yogic mind, this would
seem extreme and egotistical but this is something I've been wanting to
do for a long time. Because of a few nagging injuries, I couldn't quite
find the right time. Or better to say, I couldn't quite find the
right mind. Once my attitude changed towards true health and
fitness, I knew I was ready. My consciousness and confidence
actually evolved to this stage over a number of years. I finally
have no need to push beyond healthy limits or try to impress anyone
with my practice. I gave myself permission before I even took on
this endeavor to modify and take as many breaks as I needed. I
mostly did it just for the experience and not for any competition or
superman complex.
I really looked forward to Barb's early morning classes because her
music was the bomb and her teaching style was perfect for 6:15
am. Douchka's style was smooth as silk and very
therapeutic. Celine always cracks me up when she's describing the
sun salutation sequences and she says - with her thick french accent -
poosh up...poosh up!! And Zed (our California girl despite NOT
being from California) teaches the 5:30 pm classes and has developed
quite a solid following. Shana, Natalie and Jenny were not
teaching that week :-(
Now here's the surprising part - since I did the classes smart and gave
myself permission at the beginning of the week to purposely take more
breaks in each class - by the time I got to the latter part of the week
my body and mind felt great! Better than they've felt in a long,
long time. It was nice to see how my body reacted to the energies
in the early morning, afternoon and evening classes - each time frame
had a different vibe and each class had it's own signature and
personality.
I wouldn't recommend this for un-skilled yoga practitioners. But
I do wholeheartedly recommend and suggest that you can do yoga 7 days a
week - with no downsides - if you do it rationally.
Now we're approaching the new year and we've decided to do our
motivational 108 Sun Salutations. So on new year's day - to help
set your energies right for the upcoming year - we offer this special
class for new and returning yogis. What a great way to start the
new year!

Rica. Directing the center's yoga program, Kelly had just spent 2
weeks studying with John Friend, the founder of Anusara Yoga. I
didn't know her prior to her first Anusara experience so maybe she's
always been about yoga the way she is now - funny, playful, passionate,
patient, inspiring! I do know that the 5 days I spent taking her
classes, enjoying a private lesson & getting to know her made an
indelible impression! She challenges & supports
you & no matter where you're starting, she'll have you
sweating, breathing & laughing at every turn!
Kelly joined John as his global tour manager, spending most of her time
on the road organizing Anusara workshops around the world.
Embracing & absorbing Anusara principles & John’s daily wisdom
& teaching all while cultivating her own creative & joyful
teaching style - Kelly never fails to bring a fresh, fun energy to
Tsada!
If you are new in your practice & a little nervous about jumping

Thursday’s class focuses on delicious poses for the pelvis -
including alignment principles, poses, & partner work to unlock the
energy of the hips & pelvis. When we find the balance of
energies in the pelvis, we feel more connected, grounded &
healthy.
On Friday evening, experience passionate balance in action!
Explore the concept of balancing our energies so that we reach greater
freedom in our arm balancing & our backbends. Focusing on the
relationship of Shiva & Shakti in our poses allows us to discover
how we can balance the contrary yet complementary energies within us
- building strength, power, sun energy & soft, receptive moon
energy in every asana. It will be an amazing, expanding &
rejuvenating journey!
